Post 16 Prospectus

Thank you for your interest in Post 16 education at Coopers from September 2021.

Our school offers a first-rate experience – academically challenging, rewarding and enriching for all students, yet personalised and meaningful to each individual. This prospectus and our website will help you find out much about life at Coopers and I would urge you to explore every aspect of our Sixth Form.

Coopers is a high achieving, over-subscribed Sixth Form with highly dedicated, well qualified staff, excellent resources and a wealth of extra-curricular activities, all of which go toward creating a dynamic learning environment and providing an enriching educational experience for our students. Our results are consistently above national outcomes for both A Level and Vocational qualifications, with all students supported to achieve their potential. Around two thirds of our students leave us to study at university each year, with a significant number of students joining Russell Group universities.

Students have successfully gained places at Oxford and Cambridge University in the last few years and this trend is set to continue. We are however a comprehensive school, and support all students with their career aims and aspirations, whatever these may be, and a significant number of students now leave us each year for higher-level apprenticeships in line with the changing national landscape.

Please be aware that all applications for 2021 entry must be submitted by 15 January 2021.

POST 16 ENTRY CRITERIA

You MUST meet both of the following entry criteria in order to study at Coopers Post 16:

  • A minimum of a grade 4 in English Language or English Literature
  • A minimum APS (average point score) of 4+

To work out your APS, add up your points for each subject and then divide by the number of GCSEs taken.

Most A Level subjects ask for a 5 in either English Language or English Literature, and all BTEC subjects ask for a 4 in either. This refers to the different literacy requirements between the two qualification levels. Some subjects will have additional subject specific requirements.

Subject entry criteria can be found here.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

To give a greater initial choice, we are giving you the flexibility to choose any combination of subjects before we have timetabled them.

The deadline for applications is Friday 15th January 2021 - 5pm

This is when subjects will be timetabled into blocks against student choice to give a best fit model. We will endeavour to accommodate all choices and combinations, and will contact you in the Spring term once we had reviewed your application.

Applications will still be accepted after 15th January 2021, however this could restrict your choices.

Please ensure you have carefully read through this Prospectus and individual subject pages on our website before completing your online application, paying close attention to the individual subject entry criteria. Subject-specific entry requirements can be found on our website. We will accept either English Language or English Literature as the main English grade.
